How can I become a better writer
If you are reading this post I assume you have read at least a few of my other posts and have a concept of how I write. I would love to hear from you. Hell, open question to literally anyone reading this even if you haven't read my other stuff. Sound off in the comments.
How can I get better, in your opinion? Where are the strengths in my writing that I ought improve and the weaknesses I ought amend? What am I missing?
I know some of my weaknesses for sure, as I addressed in my site retrospective. I work too slowly. I don't stay current. I don't want to piss people off. I'm not as willing or able as some to do "readings", wrapping my criticism around specific themes. At times I think perhaps I'm fundamentally incurious or just uneducated or something. Which may very well be true; who can say? What's clear is that something is not up to snuff. I am obviously not doing as good a job as I could or should be.
I also know we live in a particularly dark time where even the best writers are having trouble finding attention. The premise of me typing out that sentence also acknowledges that I am firmly not among their number and I do not wish to be so presumptuous as to pretend though I am. But also, sometimes I see the stuff out there that people are presumably being paid to write and I'm just like, come on. ...Maybe that's too mean-spirited of me. Another thing to work on, I guess.
Share your wisdom with me, friends.
