What I did in 2024 and what I'd like to do in 2025
Inspired by Kyle Labriola's post of the same tack.
While none of us ever quite accomplishes everything we want to, it's been a particularly chaotic year for me for various reasons. It feels like I've barely been able to keep my head above the water line for like the past... well, too long.
And if there's something YOU think I accomplished that I have forgotten to write here, comment below or just hit me up somewhere.
2024
Blogging
- I was fairly active on Cohost, mostly in the form of compilation posts, though I did a decent amount of my own work, most of which is now on this site.
- I think I perhaps did more harm than good in the long run. Boosting posts means more people see them, and especially on social media that means there are more vectors for harassment and such from bad actors. I would never say it was "my fault" or anything but I can't say I'm blameless either.
- I've done a few larger posts on games I felt I had more to say about. Some people tell me I've done a good job and that's very nice of them.
- I put this site together! Wow!!
Projects
- Started a screenshot Let's Play whilst my home was under repair for water damage. Progress has halted due to various factors including Cohost's collapse, but I managed to get to a solid stopping point.
- Installed RPG Maker and started playing a few more notable RPG Maker games to try and sort of absorb design concepts. Special thanks to Jama and again Kyle Labriola for their support in this.
- I continued involvement with Yotsuben's Updated Autopsy Report project, though my part in it will likely be ending soon as he approaches the end of the Ace Attorney series and moves on to related works.
- I pitched articles/books at a few places and sent in a couple applications for writer positions. Nothing came of any of it, but it's a start.
Personal
- Started taking fiber supplements regularly. It really does help.
- I still wouldn't say I exercise regularly, but I go for a 30-45 walk first thing in the morning most days.
- I hacked my 3DS. It's not quite as easy as everyone says it is, but it's not terribly hard either. Now I just need to find my Vita...
- I've been on ADHD stims for a while, but I got on anti-depressants. I'm sure they're helping but it doesn't always feel like it.
- Mostly due to Cohost's collapse, I greatly expanded my range of personal contacts.
2025 Goals
Survive
- I'm still here, I'm not dead yet
Blogging
- Write more, smaller posts.
- Become more coherent. Like my brain, my writing tends to meander and lack central pillars.
- Get faster. ADHD means I tend to work in fits and spurts, which means things don't get done by the time I want them to.
- Be more positive. I tend to be fueled by spite and all my biggest posts were broadly just complaining. I want to be so excited about something it makes other people excited.
Projects
- Finish the JoJo LP. I picked something relatively simple to prove to myself I could do it and I'd like to finish it on principle.
- Make a quick proof of concept in RPG Maker. The problem is figuring out which concept to pursue.
- More than just a quick thing, if possible. Baby steps.
- If possible, get another TTRPG campaign up and running. I'm currently in one right now with a bunch of strangers-to-acquaintances, and I miss the rapport of doing it with my closest friends.
- Pick something to write and stick to it. I can never make some things and I want to be at peace with that.
- I have so many model kits that I haven't built.
Personal
- Dust more. Clean more in general, really.
- Cook more often, chiefly in relation to one of the other things on this list.
- Exercise more. Perhaps I'll start taking evening walks in addition to the morning ones.
- Sleep more. I think I might just be one of the unlucky people who needs more than 8 hours.
- Read more. I used to read a lot of books and now I do not really read books. I unfortunately can't really do audiobooks most of the time (I need some kind of repetitive task to keep engaged while listening, and most productive things take too much brain power), but I've got plenty just sitting around on shelves anyway.
- Relatedly, get a library card.
- Spend less time on social media.
- Paradoxically, stay in better contact with my contacts.
- Take better care of my appearance. Lotion, conditioner, fingernails, et cetera.
- Take better care of my health. My shoulder has been fucked up for probably a couple years now. I need new glasses. I probably have sleep apnea. My blood pressure is too high. Et cetera.
- Drink less, if not none. It has not yet reached the point of becoming A Problem, but I can see that proverbial threshold rapidly approaching.
- Go through the process of becoming an IHSS provider and various related tasks. I'm already doing it, might as well see if I can get paid for it.
Take care out there, folks. May your 2025 turn out better than you either hope or expect.
