I learned I probably had ADHD when I was in the hospital for an appendectomy. I woke up the morning after the surgery to find that my mother had taken my glasses home with her in case someone was going to steal them. She left my smartphone, but it was out of battery.

So I'm laying here in this bed, barely able to sit up, squinting at the mounted television so that I could make out basic shapes instead of simply a beige blur, and PBS happened to be re-airing a documentary about ADHD.

It took a couple more years to get diagnosed and medicated, but that's on the medical system, not me.
